Chincha Guluva - The Game Changer

Born in Soweto in 1944, Kaizer "Chincha Guluva" Motaung has become synonymous with soccer. He earned his nickname Chincha Guluva due to his skills on the pitch (his opponents could not predict his next move) - whilst playing for Orlando Pirates Football Club. He rose from being one of South Africa's top soccer players to being an exceptional brand in his own right. The same could be said about Motaung in the boardroom with his astute business skills.

The Birth of Kaizer Chiefs

He started his soccer career at the age of 16 at Orlando Pirates Football Club and was recruited to join Atlanta Chiefs in 1968 where he played for 2 years. Upon his return to South Africa in 1970 to rejoin Orlando Pirates Football Club, Motaung suggested that the club be run as a commercial enterprise. His idea was turned down, that's when he left to start the brand known today as Kaizer Chiefs.
